WHAT IS THE ARIZONA CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT?

The Arizona Charitable Tax Credit is a set of two nonrefundable individual income tax credits for charitable contributions to Qualifying Charitable Organizations (QCOs) and Qualifying Foster Care Charitable Organizations (QFCOs). The maximum allowable credit for contributions to QCOs is $800 for married filing jointly filers or $400 for single, married filing separately, and heads of household filers. The maximum credit for contributions to QFCOs is $1,000 for married filing jointly or $500 for single, married filing separately, and heads of household filers.

These tax credits provide dollar-for-dollar tax benefits, allowing taxpayers to reduce their state tax liabilities for each dollar donated to charities, up to the maximum allowable limits.

ANEW Living is a Qualified Arizona Tax Credit agency.  For tax credit donations, you will need our QCO code (20798) on your AZ form 321. You can either give your tax credit donation directly to ANEW Living by using the "donate" button at the bottom of the page, or through the Flagstaff Community Foundation (FCF).  GUIDELINES FOR THE ARIZONA CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT

Here are some general guidelines for using the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. Please consult your tax advisor for advice on your specific tax situation.

HOW DOES THE ARIZONA CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT WORK?

Fortunately, the process for making a charitable contribution and claiming the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit is relatively straightforward. There are four steps to document your donation and claim your tax credits.

1. Donate to a certified charitable organization (QCO or QFCO), such as a 501(c)(3) organization like ANEW Living, Inc
2. Maintain a receipt of your gift from the charity, in order to provide a copy with your tax return.
3. Complete the relevant tax form to claim one or more credits for your gift(s): Arizona Form 321 for gifts to QCOs, and/or Arizona Form 352 for gifts to QFCOs.
4. Calculate your individual tax return (e.g. Arizona Form 140, 140NR, 140PY or 140X), subtracting your tax credits from your tax liability, in order to reduce your Arizona state tax balance. Include either Arizona Form 321 or Arizona Form 352, or both, with this return.

For example if a single individual owes $2000 in taxes but donates $400 to a qualifying charitable organization, his tax liability is reduced to $1600.

What is ANEW Living’s Healthy Living Initiative?

  • At ANEW Living we focus on all aspects of  a persons' homelessness.  Along with providing a clean safe living environment, teaching new life skills with basic financial management including savings and budgeting, we also focus on providing the resources to make healthier meal choices fostering an all around healthier lifestyle. 

  • ANEW Living has an on-site Community Pantry available for free to all the residents living at ANEW.  Our Community Pantry is stocked with meats, fresh vegetables, fruits, dairy, breads, cans foods and more. Thanks to the partnership with the Flagstaff Food Bank, St Mary's Food bank, and the Sunshine Rescue Mission.  Many of our residents rely on cooking with a microwave, a hot plate, or a crockpot.  Through our on-site community pantry ANEW Living focuses on providing the ingredients to prepare healthy meals using a crock pot or other limited cooking utensils and sharing easy recipes that are sure to result in a tasty successful complete meal.

What's new at ANEW?

This year ANEW Living is focusing on converting our larger living units into more family friendly studio-style units to better accommodate the needs of our homeless working poor family population in Flagstaff.  Anew’s family unit expansion project focuses on converting larger single units into studio-style units to accommodate smaller-size families by providing them with a living environment more conductive to a long-term stay than the existing motel room. The conversion will add a kitchenette with additional storage, a standard sink (rather than using a bathroom sink for food preparation and cleaning dishes) The kitchenette gives them a food preparation and cooking area that helps promote a healthier lifestyle.  Upgrades in the electrical are needed to support a larger refrigerator as well as adding new electrical lines and GFI outlets for safe usage of appliances.

The goal of ANEW Living’s Family unit Expansion Project is to increase the number of family units available for homeless families in Northern Arizona.   Flagstaff’s single intake unit known as the Front Door reports there are over 100 applicants in Flagstaff area waiting for housing. ANEW Living is the only transitional housing program that allows for two parent families, single dads or mothers with teenage sons. We serve all the homeless working poor but this sub-population group (families) is given a higher priority. Our long-term goal is to convert 13 of our 21 units to family friendly studio-style units. To date we have converted five units and this year out goal is to convert four additional units.
